A: Ahh…. the age old question. Unfortunately, there is no “quick-fix” magic answer. Well, sort of. Let me explain…
If you have done any sort of research on this topic, I am sure you have been bombarded with two major answers: relevant in-bound links and content. If you are hoping for another answer or a shortcut to bypass these two methods, read no further.
Trying to get to the coveted top positions of the Google search results can be compared to our Presidential election - the only way to become the next President (or the next dot com success story) is to get the most votes.
Websites across the World Wide Web that add a link to your website are, in Google’s eyes, considered a “vote”. Websites that are related to the content of your site carry more weight than those that don’t. For the sake of analogy, let’s say these kinds of links count as *two* votes. Websites that have content related to yours and link to you without you offering them a link in return carry even *more* weight - let’s say these type of links count as *three* votes.
So, how do you get the coveted “three” votes for one-way inbound links from related sites? You have to appeal to your voters by providing something that they think is worth linking to. Make sure your content is compelling and unique, or, better yet, offer something that no one else is offering, and offer it for free. Free stuff is a great motivator!
The key thing to remember is to create compelling, UNIQUE content that people will want to share with others by linking to it from their own sites.
